Mango Smoothies in Kao Sahn

Finally the groove of the long journey has set in with a timeless contented sigh, even allowing myself to take a long nap in the afternoon to counteract the effects of jetlag mixed in with the blazing afternoon heat. After relocating to the quintessential backpacker's ghetto of Kao Sahn Road, I've taken up residence in a tiny and quite room of the Apple Guest House, near the Chao Phraya waterfront, and a lovely park with a large shaded green space inhabited by jugglers and poi spinners and acrobats and generally by smiling people hanging out there to have a great time. This was the first real opportunity to hang out with the local younger crowd who were there to spend hours playing and sharing tricks & tips with the friendly backpacker crew. Here is an extended crowd of kindred spirits. And talented too!!

This many people with so much time on their hands (occasinally intersperced with trips to get mango smoothies!), so they are incredibly advanced! I've learned a tremendous amount in just these two days -- tricks that simply nooone was doing in Atlanta. So I'll hang out a couple more days while I wait for my Chinese visa, providing time to pick the brains of those others on their year+ treks asking about the Asian hot spots and misc traveller trivia and advice. But a consistent theme of advice was "Don't get sucked in forever!" and I can imagine how easy it would be to allow the days to pass into weeks or months here in this friendly paradise.
